We are pleased to announce that after a highly competitive selection process, ASN will host a session that showcases findings from the RESTRUCTURE trial within the broader context of the U.S. Dietary Guidelines. The session is titled: ‘Ultra-Processed Foods Research: Past, Present, and Future’.
Chaired by Professor Barbara Rolls of The Pennsylvania State University and Dean Mario Ferruzzi of Virginia Tech, the session will provide a comprehensive overview of the current scientific consensus and emerging debates. Dr. Deanna Hoelscher (UTHealth Houston School of Public Health) will kick off the discussion with a science brief detailing the U.S. Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee’s review, focusing on the evidence linking ultra-processed food intake with growth, body composition, and obesity.
A key highlight of the webinar is the detailed presentation of the RESTRUCTURE trial by Dr. Ciarán Forde and Dr. Marlou Lasschuijt, including insights into the trial’s design and preliminary outcomes. Complementing these discussions, Dr. Catherine Woteki (Iowa State University) will share her perspectives on advancing research through adversarial collaboration, and the session will conclude with a panel discussion that ties together the insights from all speakers.
